Homemade Crunchwrap

Homemade Crunchwrap

Crispy on the outside, cheesy and loaded on the inside, a homemade Crunchwrap brings all your favorite taco flavors together in one satisfying meal. Seasoned ground beef, warm nacho cheese, a crunchy tostada, sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, and shredded cheese are wrapped inside a soft flour tortilla and toasted until perfectly golden. It’s easy to customize and surprisingly simple to make at home.

Easy Homemade Crunchwrap

The secret to a great Crunchwrap is layering the ingredients properly so you get creamy, cheesy, fresh, and crunchy textures in every bite.

Ingredients

For the Beef:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp taco seasoning
  • ¼ cup water
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Crunchwraps:

  • 4 extra-large flour tortillas
  • 4 small tostada shells
  • 1 cup nacho cheese sauce
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican-style cheese
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 4 small flour tortilla rounds, if needed for sealing
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil or butter

Instructions

1. Cook the Beef

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks.

Drain excess fat, then add the taco seasoning and water. Stir and simmer for 2–3 minutes until the beef is well coated and flavorful.

2. Warm the Tortillas

Warm the large flour tortillas for a few seconds in a skillet or microwave. This makes them softer and easier to fold without tearing.

3. Start the Layers

Place a large tortilla on a clean surface. Add a portion of seasoned beef to the center, leaving plenty of space around the edges.

Spoon warm nacho cheese over the beef.

4. Add the Crunch

Place a tostada shell directly over the beef and cheese. Spread sour cream over the tostada, then top with shredded lettuce, diced tomato, and shredded cheese.

5. Fold the Crunchwrap

Fold the edges of the large tortilla toward the center, working your way around until the filling is completely enclosed.

If there’s a small opening in the middle, place a small tortilla round over the filling before folding to help seal it.

6. Toast Until Crispy

Heat a lightly greased skillet or griddle over medium heat.

Place the Crunchwrap folded-side down and cook for 2–3 minutes, or until golden and sealed. Flip and cook the other side for another 2 minutes until crispy.

7. Slice & Serve

Let the Crunchwrap rest for a minute before slicing in half. Serve warm with salsa, guacamole, hot sauce, or extra sour cream.

Why This Recipe Works

The tostada shell creates that signature crunch while keeping the warm beef and nacho cheese separate from the cool lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. Toasting the folded tortilla gives the outside a crispy, golden finish while sealing everything together for the perfect handheld meal.

Tips for the Best Homemade Crunchwrap

  • Don't overfill or the tortilla will be difficult to close.
  • Warm your tortillas first to make folding easier.
  • Keep the tostada whole for maximum crunch.
  • Cook folded-side down first to help seal the Crunchwrap.
  • Serve immediately so the inside stays crunchy.
