Easy Garlic Bread Knots 🧄

These homemade garlic knots bake up soft and fluffy on the inside with beautifully golden edges and plenty of buttery garlic flavor.

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt

For the Garlic Butter:

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese

For Serving:

  • Warm marinara sauce
  • Extra Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley

Instructions

1. Activate the Yeast

Combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast in a small bowl. Stir gently and let sit for 5–10 minutes, or until the mixture becomes foamy.

2. Make the Dough

Add the flour, olive oil, and salt. Mix until a shaggy dough forms, then knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

3. Let the Dough Rise

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for approximately 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

4. Shape the Knots

Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 6–8 inches long, then gently tie each rope into a knot.

5. Let Them Rest

Arrange the knots on a lined baking sheet, leaving some space between each one. Cover and let rest for another 15–20 minutes.

6. Bake

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the garlic knots for 15–18 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.

7. Make the Garlic Butter

While the knots bake, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, parsley, salt, and Italian seasoning.

8. Brush & Serve

As soon as the knots come out of the oven, generously brush them with the garlic butter. Finish with grated Parmesan and fresh parsley. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.

Why This Recipe Works 🥖

Allowing the dough enough time to rise creates soft, airy garlic knots with a light and chewy interior. Brushing them with garlic butter immediately after baking allows the warm bread to absorb all that rich, savory flavor, while Parmesan adds the perfect salty finish.

Tips for Perfect Garlic Bread Knots

  • Use warm, not hot, water to properly activate the yeast.
  • Give the dough time to rise for softer, fluffier knots.
  • Make the knots similar in size so they bake evenly.
  • Brush with garlic butter while warm so the bread absorbs more flavor.
  • Serve immediately for the softest texture and best garlic flavor.
