This simple apple crisp combines sweet, tender apples with a delightful crunchy topping, perfect for cozy fall evenings and gatherings.

Ingredients

For the filling:

  • 6 cups sliced apples (about 6 medium apples)

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

For the crisp topping:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

  • ½ cup milk

  • 2 large eggs

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).

  2. Prepare the Apples: In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Spread the mixture evenly in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

  3. Make the Topping: In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, milk, and eggs. Gently mix the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients until combined.

  4. Assemble: Spread the topping mixture evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
