Quick and Easy Stir Fry

Stir fry is a versatile dish that's quick to make and perfect for any night of the week. Here’s a streamlined recipe to help you make a delicious stir fry with minimal fuss.

Equipment Needed

  • Large skillet or wok: Essential for even cooking and high-heat stir-frying.

  • Sharp knife: For slicing protein and vegetables.

  • Cutting board: To prep your ingredients.

  • Mixing bowl: For making the sauce.

  • Measuring spoons and cups: To ensure accurate ingredient amounts.

  • Wooden spoon or spatula: Use to stir the ingredients.

Ingredients

For the Stir Fry:

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 1 pound chicken breast, thinly sliced (or tofu, beef, or your choice of protein)

  • 2 cups broccoli florets

  • 1 bell pepper, sliced

  • 1 cup snap peas

  • 1 medium carrot, julienned

  • 1 onion, thinly sliced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced (or 1 teaspoon ground ginger)

  • 3 green onions, chopped

For the Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce

  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce

  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce (optional)

  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Equipment and Ingredients:

    • Slice your protein and vegetables using a sharp knife and cutting board. Have your skillet or wok ready.

  2. Make the Sauce:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, oyster sauce (if using), rice vinegar, cornstarch, and water. Whisk until smooth.

  3. Cook the Protein:

    • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in the skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the protein and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and set aside.

  4. Stir Fry the Vegetables:

    • Add another tablespoon of oil to the pan. Sauté garlic and ginger for 30 seconds until fragrant.

    • Add broccoli, bell pepper, snap peas, carrot, and onion. Stir fry for 3-5 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.

  5. Combine and Sauce:

    • Return the protein to the pan. Pour the sauce over the mixture and stir with a wooden spoon or spatula. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.

  6. Serve:

    • Top with chopped green onions and a drizzle of sesame oil if desired. Serve hot over rice or noodles.

Enjoy your stir fry with minimal cleanup and maximum flavour
